Most store owners who ignore your first email are busy, not uninterested. These follow-ups are written for an ecommerce analytics tool selling to Shopify and DTC founders, heads of ecommerce, and growth marketers. Fill in the brackets, send one at a time, and stop after the last one.

1. Follow-up 1: the one-number bump

Subject: Re: [original subject] Hi [first name], following up on my note about [store name]. I looked at your store again and noticed [specific thing, e.g. you run a lot of discount codes on your bestsellers]. Our tool shows which codes bring repeat buyers and which only bring one-time orders. Worth a 15 minute look? [Your name] Send this 3 days after your first email, replying in the same thread so they see the context.

2. Follow-up 2: the free teardown offer

Subject: A quick read on [store name]'s repeat purchase rate Hi [first name], no pitch here. If you connect [store name] to [tool name] for a read-only trial, I will send you a one-page summary of [specific metric, e.g. which first products lead to a second order]. You keep the summary either way. Want me to send the connect link? [Your name] Use this 5 to 7 days after follow-up 1, when they have not replied but opened your emails.

3. Follow-up 3: after a demo with no decision

Subject: What you saw on [day of call] Hi [first name], thanks for the time on [day]. You said [their exact problem, e.g. you cannot tell if Meta or email drives first orders]. In the demo, [tool name] showed [specific result from their data or the demo]. The next step is [one action, e.g. connecting your Klaviyo account so we can compare channels]. Does [date] work to set that up together? [Your name] Send this within 24 hours of a demo where they were interested but did not commit.

4. Follow-up 4: the trial that went quiet

Subject: Your [tool name] trial for [store name] Hi [first name], I saw you connected [store name] on [date] but have not logged in since. Most people get stuck at [common sticking point, e.g. setting up the cohort view]. I can set it up for you on a 10 minute call, or send a 2 minute screen recording. Which do you prefer? [Your name] Use this when a trial user has been inactive for 3 or more days after signing up.

5. Follow-up 5: the community intro follow-up

Subject: From the [community name] thread on [topic] Hi [first name], you posted in [r/shopify / the eCommerceFuel forum / the DTC Slack] about [their exact question, e.g. why blended ROAS looks fine while profit drops]. I build [tool name], which [one line on how it answers that question]. Happy to run your numbers for free and send back what I find. Interested? [Your name] Send this when you reached out after a public post and they have not answered your first message.

6. Follow-up 6: the pricing objection

Subject: Re: pricing for [store name] Hi [first name], fair point on price. At [their monthly revenue range], [tool name] costs [price], and the question is whether it finds [one concrete, checkable outcome, e.g. one underperforming ad set or discount code]. I can start you on [option, e.g. a 30 day month-to-month plan] so you can cancel if it does not pay for itself. Want me to set that up? [Your name] Use this when someone tells you the price is too high but still wants the result.

7. Follow-up 7: the breakup email

Subject: Closing the loop on [store name] Hi [first name], I have not heard back, so I will stop emailing. If [problem, e.g. figuring out true customer lifetime value] becomes a priority later, reply to this thread and I will pick it up. Good luck with [something specific, e.g. the Q4 launch]. [Your name] Send this as the last email, 7 to 10 days after the previous one. Hulby, an AI cofounder, writes and sends follow-ups like these daily for founders who want this off their plate.

Mistakes to skip

  • Following up with 'just checking in' and nothing new, like a specific detail about their store or a free summary.
  • Sending to a generic info@ inbox instead of the founder or head of ecommerce found on LinkedIn or the store's About page.
  • Explaining dashboards and features instead of one question the store owner already asks, like which channel drives repeat buyers.
  • Sending more than 4 or 5 follow-ups or skipping the breakup email, which often gets the most replies.

Want this done for your ecommerce analytics tool, every day?

Questions

How many follow-ups should I send?

Three to four after the first email, then a breakup email. Space them 3 to 10 days apart.

Should I reply in the same thread or start a new one?

Reply in the same thread for the first follow-up so they have context. Start a new thread when you offer something new, like a free teardown.

Who should I email at an ecommerce brand?

At small Shopify stores, the founder. At larger DTC brands, the head of ecommerce, growth marketer, or retention manager.

What if they reply 'not now'?

Ask when to check back, note the date, and follow up then with one new detail about their store.
