$1,000 a month is 20 customers at $49 or 10 at $99. You do not need an audience to get there. You need to find developers who already feel the pain of their current analytics tool and ask them to pay early.

1. Pick one buyer and one pain

Choose a narrow buyer, for example indie iOS developers, React Native agencies, or small SaaS teams on Mixpanel's free tier who hit event limits. Write one sentence on the pain you solve better, such as 'privacy-friendly event tracking that does not need a consent banner' or 'product analytics that installs in 5 minutes and costs a tenth of Amplitude.' Every message you send from now on uses that sentence.

2. Set a simple price before you talk to anyone

Offer two plans: $29 a month up to 1 million events and $99 a month up to 10 million events. Add a founding customer deal: 40% off for life for the first 15 accounts that pay now. A clear price makes asking for money easier than 'what would you pay?'

3. Find people complaining about their current tool

Search Reddit (r/iOSProgramming, r/reactnative, r/SaaS, r/androiddev), Hacker News and X for phrases like 'Mixpanel pricing', 'Amplitude too expensive', 'Firebase Analytics alternative', 'PostHog self-host pain' and 'GDPR analytics app'. Also check GitHub issues on open source analytics repos where people ask for features you have. Save 30 names a day in a spreadsheet with a link to what they wrote.

4. Send short, specific messages

Reply or DM with a message that references their exact problem. Example: 'Saw your post about Mixpanel's event limit jumping your bill. I built an analytics SDK for iOS and Android that is $29 a month for 1M events and installs in one line. Want me to set it up on a test build for you this week?' Aim for 20 messages a day, written by hand.

5. Install it for them and ask for payment on the call

Offer a 20-minute screen share where you add the SDK to their app and show their first dashboard live. When they see real events, ask directly: 'The founding price is $17 a month, locked for life, for the first 15 teams. Want me to send the Stripe link now?' If they hesitate, offer a 14-day trial that converts automatically, with the card taken upfront.

6. Sell to agencies for multiple seats

Mobile and web agencies ship many client apps and pick the analytics stack. Find them on Clutch and LinkedIn by searching 'React Native agency' or 'Flutter development studio', and message the CTO or technical lead. Offer a flat $199 a month for up to 10 client apps. One agency deal covers a fifth of your goal.

7. Post where developers compare tools

Write a short, honest comparison post such as 'I built a Mixpanel alternative for small apps, here is what it does and does not do' and share it on Show HN, r/SideProject and Indie Hackers. Include the price in the post. Reply to every comment within the hour and DM anyone who asks a setup question.

8. Track the number daily and repeat

Keep a sheet with messages sent, calls booked, and paying accounts. If 100 messages produce zero calls, change the pain sentence, not the volume. Hulby, an AI cofounder, does this daily for founders: finding these conversations, drafting the messages and tracking follow-ups.

Mistakes to skip

  • Giving the SDK away free for months and hoping people upgrade later.
  • Pricing per seat when developers think in events or apps.
  • Posting in communities with a link and no context, which reads as spam and gets removed.
  • Waiting for a perfect dashboard instead of asking early users to pay for what works today.

Want this done for your analytics SDK, every day?

Hulby finds the people asking for what you built, writes every reply and email, and keeps you on it until they pay. Free to start.

Questions

Should I charge per event or per seat?

Per event volume with a few clear tiers. It matches how developers already compare Mixpanel, Amplitude and PostHog.

How do I compete with free tiers from big tools?

Sell to people who already outgrew or dislike those free tiers. Lead with what they complain about: price jumps, consent banners, setup time, or data leaving the EU.

Is $29 too cheap?

Not at the start. Low friction gets the first 20 customers. Raise prices for new customers once you have retention and a waitlist.

How long should it take to reach $1,000 a month?

It depends on your niche and how many people you contact. Send 20 targeted messages a day and track calls booked per 100 messages to see your real pace.
