Good content isn't just about good ideas
You can have the perfect idea for a social media post and still end up with something nobody wants to look at.
Good social media content needs two things: something worth saying and a design that makes people want to stop scrolling.
Fortunately, you don't need to be a professional designer to improve your content.
Keep your message simple
The first rule is probably the most important.
Don't try to say everything in one post.
One post should usually have one clear idea.
Instead of:
"Here are 10 different reasons why our product is great..."
Try:
"3 reasons customers choose our product."
The second version is easier to understand immediately.
Use your brand consistently
Your social media should look like it belongs to your business.
Use consistent:
Colors
Fonts
Image styles
Spacing
Visual elements
Tone of voice
Someone should be able to see one of your posts without reading your name and still recognize your brand.
Don't fill every space
More design doesn't mean better design.
Whitespace gives your content room to breathe and makes important information easier to notice.
If everything is large, bold and colorful, nothing feels important.
Use strong images
A good image can do more than a paragraph of text.
Use your own product photography, customer images, behind-the-scenes photos or other visuals that genuinely represent your business.
Avoid using generic imagery simply because you need to fill an empty space.
Make content people can save
Not every post needs to sell something.
Create content people might want to save or send to someone else.
Think:
"5 things to check before buying..."
"3 mistakes to avoid..."
"Your checklist for..."
"Everything you need to know about..."
This gives your audience a reason to come back.
Make your content varied
If every post looks exactly the same, your feed quickly becomes boring.
Mix different formats and ideas:
Product posts.
Educational posts.
Carousels.
Stories.
Tips.
Promotions.
Behind-the-scenes content.
Customer-focused posts.
The goal isn't to make every post completely different. It's to make your content feel fresh while keeping your brand recognizable.
Design for the platform
A post for Instagram doesn't necessarily belong on LinkedIn unchanged.
Different platforms have different formats and audiences.
Vertical content works naturally on TikTok. Carousels can work well for educational content. LinkedIn often benefits from clear, information-focused posts.
The content should fit where it is being posted.
Don't design for the sake of designing
The best social media content doesn't look good because it contains lots of effects.
It looks good because everything has a purpose.
Good typography.
Good spacing.
Good imagery.
A clear message.
A recognizable brand.
That's enough.
Your website already contains your visual identity
If you already have a website, you don't need to start your social media branding from scratch.
Your website can provide the foundation:
Your colors.
Your typography.
Your imagery.
Your products.
Your messaging.
Hulby uses that information to create social content that feels connected to your business.
Good social media shouldn't look like a template. It should look like you.
